Using reusable blocks in size charts

Managing a few size charts is easy. Managing 50 or 100 becomes a nightmare the moment you need to change a small detail across all of them.
The problem: The copy-paste trap
When building size charts, it's common to reuse certain sections across many different products. For example, you might want every size chart to include:
- Contact Information: Your support email and phone number.
- Measuring Instructions: A guide on how to measure chest, waist, and hips.
- Policy Disclaimers: Details about returns, exchanges, or shipping.
The traditional approach is to copy and paste this content into every new chart you create. This works fine initially, but eventually, something will change. Maybe you get a new support phone number, or you update your return policy from 30 days to 60 days.
Suddenly, you are stuck with a tedious maintenance task:
- Manual Repetition: You have to open every single size chart (potentially hundreds) and manually edit the text.
- Human Error: It is easy to miss a chart, leave a typo in one, or forget to save, leading to inconsistent information across your store.
- Wasted Time: What should be a 1-minute update turns into an hour of boring data entry.
The solution: Reusable blocks
Reusable Blocks allow you to create a content block once and use it in as many size charts as you like. Instead of copying the content, you are linking to the source.
Think of a reusable block as a "master block." When you update the master reusable block, every size chart that uses it is automatically updated to reflect the changes instantly.
Key Benefit: You can update a return policy across 500 products in 30 seconds, with zero risk of missing one.
Common use cases
Here are the most effective ways stores use reusable blocks to save time:
- Universal Contact Info: Create a reusable block with your customer service hours, email, and phone number. Add it to the footer of every chart. If your hours change, update the reusable block once.
- Measuring Guides: Create a visual guide with an image and text explaining how to measure. Use this same reusable block for all "Tops" or "Bottoms" charts.
- Seasonal Promotions: Create a banner reusable block (e.g., "Black Friday Sale - Free Shipping"). Add it to the top of your charts. When the sale ends, just clear the content in the reusable block or replace it with a standard message.
- Sizing Disclaimers: If certain fabrics shrink or have specific care instructions, put that text in a reusable block to ensure the wording is legally consistent everywhere.
How to create a reusable block
- Open the Jotly app and navigate to the Reusable Blocks tab.
- Click the Create reusable block button.
- Give your reusable block a clear, descriptive name (e.g., "Standard Return Policy", "Men's Measuring Guide").
- Build your content using the editor blocks—add text, images, videos, or tables just like you would in a normal chart.
- Click Save.
How to use a reusable block in a chart
- Open the size chart where you want to add the reusable block.
- Click Add Block to add a new section.
- Select Attach reusable block from the list of block types.
- A dropdown will appear. Choose the reusable block you created earlier.
- Save the chart. The content from your reusable block will now appear in that position.
Best practices
- Modular Design: Keep reusable blocks focused on a single purpose. Instead of one giant reusable block for "Everything," have separate reusable blocks for "Contact Info" and "Return Policy." This gives you more flexibility to mix and match.
- Naming Conventions: Use clear names so you don't get confused later. "Footer - Contact Info" is better than "Block 1."
- Global Updates: Remember that changing a reusable block affects every chart using it. If you need to make a change for just one specific product, it's better to detach the reusable block or use a regular block for that specific chart.
Pro Tip: Start by creating a "Footer" reusable block with your basic store info and add it to every new chart you build. You'll thank yourself later!
